Diagnostic Testing for Dogs and Cats in Nashville, TN

Belle Meade Animal Hospital has a range of sophisticated diagnostic tools that we use to obtain detailed information about your dog or cat’s condition. These advanced diagnostics are used in our preventative care exams, and assist us in providing critical care for your pet in emergency situations.

Digital Radiology

Our hospital uses the advanced technology of digital radiology to examine your dog or cat’s internal organs along with their cardiopulmonary, gastrointestinal, reproductive, and urinary systems. The benefits of digital radiology compared to traditional film x-rays include a higher image quality, making it easier for our veterinarians to interpret. These digital images are available instantly, allowing for a faster and highly accurate diagnosis.

We use digital x-rays to:

  • Find foreign objects or materials within the body that may have been ingested
  • Diagnose fractures, bone and/or joint abnormalities, and various injuries
  • Screen for abnormalities within the heart, lungs, urinary, and digestive organs
  • Screen for some types of cancer

Laboratory

Our in-house laboratory allows us to quickly evaluate and diagnose your pet’s health using tests such as routine fecal screenings, urinalysis, heartworm tests, complete blood counts, pre-surgical screenings, and blood chemistry profiles. Our laboratory also allows us to evaluate and diagnose your pet’s health in an emergency. In a critical situation, our veterinarians can immediately diagnose the problem and work to save your pet’s life within minutes.

Ultrasound

An ultrasound is a common, noninvasive procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce a three-dimensional image of your pet’s internal organs in real time. We use ultrasound to provide a clearer view of your pet’s internal organs such as the liver, spleen, kidneys, and lymph nodes, and can help our veterinarians identify and locate conditions such as tumors, cysts, stones, and inflammation.
